A behavioral instrument is a research tool used to collect data on the thoughts, impressions, attititudes, or perceptions of human subjects on specific topics or in response to certain stimuli.

Behavioral instruments include:

• surveys

• questionnaires

• scales

• inventories

• interview schedules (preset, standardized questions to be asked of all interviewees)
